Silver and Jean cloth
Madeleine Bomboté at her venue, Kemboury Gallery, Dak'Art 2010
While Dak'art Biennale 2010 is ending, I would like to draw your attention on an interior architect who has a true passion for jewellery. Madeleine Bomboté has launched a line made of tiles fragments, jean cloth, leather, wood such as “Padouck”, “Wengue”. She came about designing jewels using tiles by taking one of her clients to shop for tiles… Then she became drawn to the material combining them with silver. My favorite pieces are inspired by Ethiopian iconography. Madeleine insists that her inspiration is an evident one as she grew up in Ethiopia and has a special bonding with the country. By cutting tiny faces and juxtaposing them on tiles, Madeleine manages to transform tiles into whimsical pieces of jewellery; a testimony to exquisite design and craftsmanship.
Madeleine Bombote works and lives in Dakar, Senegal.
